Art classes

Carol Hayward Fell runs vibrant art classes for adults at “CarolartStudio”, from her colourful and inviting home in Durban North.

In 2019 there are only a few spaces left in the Thursday morning class from 9-1pm. This first term starts on 29th and 31st January, costing R1500 for a term of 10 classes over 10 weeks. Payment is in advance, to secure your spot in this fun studio for 2019.

Carol loves interacting with people and specialises in teaching adults to draw and paint in a relaxed and colourful, happy environment with upbeat music.

She teaches adult students of all ages, ranging from complete beginners to more experienced painters.  Complete beginners are taught through a comprehensive drawing course that teaches the methods that artist use, to see shape and form. This involves explaining how to see in a different way; enabling beginners to get size, shape and proportion correct. This is always sucessful and students soon are quickly able to see for themselves where they are going wrong. Many of the students who have started here, have gone on to become local practising artists and many of the very competant painters in the art groups, started as complete beginners with Carol. Art students learn to draw and are then introduced to oil or acrylic painting when they are ready. Everyone brings their own materials.

Carol also has great success in helping students wanting to gain entrance into tertiary institutions, put helping them put together an impressive portfolios of drawings.

Carol currently teaches two morning classes a week, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am until 1 pm. Each class has a 30-minute tea break on the veranda overlooking the sea, with sweet or savoury treats.

Carol regularly encourages students to submit their work to exhibitions, like the annual KZNSA Members’ Exhibition in Durban. Every December she hosts an end-of-year party and an awards ceremony for her classes. Many of her ex-students have gone on to become practicing artists in their own right.

During the year, prospective new students are welcome to do a studio visit during class hours before committing. Please phone before popping in.
